Consider when
a photograph by a famous photographer was printed and under what conditions
Many famous
photographers made new editions of their photographs many years after the
images were shot. If of highest quality
and from the original negative or transparency, limited edition, printed and or
directly overseen by the photographer, these ‘printed later’ photos can have
strong financial value.
The collector
should always try and determine as best as is possible when the photo was made
relative to when the image was shot and the conditions under which the photo
was made (who printed/published it, mass production versus only a few made,
approved by photographer with his stamp on back versus unauthorized reprint 10
years after the photographer’s death). I
am not saying what type of photo a collector should or should not buy, but that
these issues should be considered.
