Cibachrome
color photographs
Cibachromes, also known as Ifachromes, are
color photographs known for their high quality images, and are often used by
fine art photographers and for exhibition images. They are cheaper to
make than dye transfers and more common. The colors have a depth that can
almost give them a 3-dimentional quality. They were introduced in 1963
and are still used today. They are on resin-coated paper (plasticy/glossy
both on back and front). The images have an ultra-glossy, almost liquid,
surfaces. When examining the image at varying angle to the light, it will
appear as if the photographic is on a liquid surface. They will usually
fluoresce similarly back and front with a black light. Avoid touching the
image, as fingerprints show up easily. As with the dye transfers, the images do
not fade with age. The high quality image and super glossy image makes
the Cibachrome easy to identify.
